Before anyone gets upset, I’m talking about the real moneymaker at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Fort Worth, Texas.  If you thought I was talking about anything else, you should be ashamed! Get your mind out of the gutter! The Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s Western Currency facility is one of only two locations in the U.S. that print money (Washington, D.C. being the other). On our road trip, we took the FREE guided tour of the facility &, from an enclosed walkway, were able to see where billions of dollars are printed on the production floor below. […]

Shake Your Moneymaker

Until recently, I was squarely in the graffiti camp. I didn’t understand why someone would spray paint words, pictures or designs on whatever building, wall, train car or clean surface they could find. Our most recent road trip completely changed my mind. I’m not an artist. I don’t have a single artistic bone in my body. I can draw stick figures, but that’s about it. There’s plenty of talented people out there who are amazing artists, but I am not, & never will be, one of them. I’ve never been a big fan of art museums or most other things that […]

Do you see graffiti or a work of art?

Imagine the Old West as it’s portrayed in movies & television shows & what do you think of? Marshalls, bank robbers, wranglers, bandits, Indians & cowboys all come to mind. There’s always a town involved, and usually there are wide open ranges & canyons where the bad guys are trying to make their getaway. On our recent family road trip, we discovered a canyon that looks like it came straight out of the movies…   Quick Quiz: Can you name the second largest canyon in the continental United States?   If you said Palo Duro Canyon, then you’re correct! Located […]

Taking the Broken Trail to Old Mexico

As you can tell from our Facebook & blog posts, we really love taking road trips! It’s relatively new for us, but we’re definitely hooked! There’s usually only the three of us while we’re road tripping so we have enough room in our current vehicle, but just think where we could go & what we could do in a RV!!!  As we see countless RVs & motor homes on the interstate while we’re travelling, our desire to have one of our own grows with each mile! If you’ve been around us for any length of time recently, then you know […]

Keep Calm and Roadschool On

Early on our road trip, we made a stop along Route 66 in Arcadia, Oklahoma to visit Pop’s Soda Ranch. In some ways it merely resembles a normal convenience store, unless you consider the giant sculpture of a soda bottle & straw that soars 66 feet into the sky. If you’re driving past Pop’s at night, then you’re treated to a light show as LED lights transform the bottle into a dazzling display of colors & patterns .   Once you make your way inside, you discover hundreds of flavors of ice-cold sodas from all around the world. From orange […]

Pop’s Soda Ranch

Following our road trip last summer to Dayton, we vowed to take another one very soon. If you follow Frost Bites of Life, Mrs. Frosty or myself on Facebook, then you know that we recently got back from our latest family road trip. This time we headed West & enjoyed a 12-day, 7-state, 3,600-mile journey filled with laughs, making wonderful memories all along the way! We’ve talked about taking a trip to San Antonio to see the Alamo for several months, & when we found out that the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view was coming to San Antonio in January, we […]
